Ball State 53, Buffalo 51
MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) -Freshman forward Mo Hubbard turned a missed lay-up into the game-winning basket with 1:09 left Sunday as Ball State held off Buffalo in a 53-51 win that snapped the Bulls' nine-game winning streak.
The two teams had traded leads throughout the second half when Buffalo's Vadim Fedotov converted a put-back with 1:31 left to tie the game at 51.
The Cardinals (11-12, 6-5 Mid-American) got the ball to Jarrod Jones, whose lay-up rolled off the rim before Hubbard converted the missed shot into the game-winning shot at 1:09.
Buffalo (17-6, 9-2 MAC) had a shot to tie the game on the next possession but Greg Gamble missed the front end of a one-and-one free throw opportunity to give the Cardinals the ball and the win.
The win moves Ball State into sole possession of first place in the MAC West Division.
Jones led Ball State with a game-high 13 points and nine rebounds, while Max Boudreau led Buffalo with 13 points off the bench.
Northern Illinois 83, Akron 79
DEKALB, Ill. (AP) -Darion Anderson scored 24 points and had ten rebounds for a double-double, along with a game-high six assists, to lead Northern Illinois to an 83-79 victory over Akron on Sunday.
Northern Illinois (7-16, 3-8 Mid-American Conference) had a 12-point 46-24 lead over Akron (16-9, 7-4 Mid-American Conference) going into half time. Akron came back from the break to outscore Northern Illinois 45-37 in the second period, but the rally wasn't enough for the win.
Tyler Storm, Sean Kowal and Sean Smith each added 13 points for Northern Illinois.
Brett McKnight came off the bench to lead Akron with 24 points and ten rebounds for a double-double. Nate Linhart had 19 points, including three 3-pointers, before he fouled out and Anthony Hitchens added ten points.
Eastern Michigan 65, Bowling Green 57
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (AP) -Zane Gay came off the bench to score 17 points and lead Eastern Michigan University to a win over Bowling Green State University on Sunday, 65-57.
It was Eastern Michigan's first road win this season and snapped an eight-game losing streak. Brandon Bowdry had his fourth double-double of the year with 15 points and 12 rebounds for the Eagles (4-21, 2-9 MAC).
Gay was 5-of-8 on 3-pointer attempts. Nate Miller was the game's leading scorer with 18 points, but it wasn't enough for Bowling Green (14-10, 7-4 MAC).
Eastern Michigan never trailed and had a 13-point lead with 10:26 left in the game.
The Eagles had a comfortable 10-point lead, 59-49, with just over a minute left to play, but Miller made two long 3-pointers to cut the lead to just 59-55 with 52 seconds left in the game.
But Eastern Michigan hit several free throws in a row to keep the lead and win.
