WOMEN’S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

 

BECKY HORN

Western Michigan

Jr. • Battle Creek, Mich. (Central)

In just her second time ever competing in the 800-meter run, Horn recorded the second-fastest time in school history and 13th fastest time in the country this season with a time of 2:08.29. Her time was good for eighth place at Notre Dame’s Meyo Invitational, registered as a personal best and established an NCAA provisional mark.

 

Horn also helped the 4x400-meter relay team claim a first place finish for the third consecutive week this season. The Bronco led the majority of the race, just briefly giving the edge to Michigan in the third leg. Horn reclaimed the lead and went on to capture the victory as the anchor, guiding the team to a time of 3:41.73.

 

 

OTHER NOMINEES:

Corine Gavin-Hall

Sr. • Akron • Canton, Ohio (Canton McKinley)

Gavin-Hall won both the 60-meter and 200-meter dashes at the Akron Open in the elite section. She posted a time of 24.21 in the 200 and a 7.51 in the 43 person, 60-meter field.

 

Jamie Roflow

Jr. • Bowling Green • Cincinnati, Ohio (McNicholas)

Roflow blew away the competition during the Falcons’ tri-meet against Central Michigan and Toledo. She ran the 3,000 meters 9:58.48, beating her nearest competitor by more than 23 seconds. Her time is good for second in the league this season.

 

Najah Floyd

Sr. • Central Michigan • Southfield, Mich. (Denby)

Floyd won the 400-meter dash at the Chippewas’ tri-meet against Bowling Green and Toledo, her third individual event win of the season. Her time of 55.96 was the third-fastest in the MAC this season and marked a new personal best.

 

Kalli Williams

Jr. • Eastern Michigan• Dexter, Mich. (Dexter)

At Notre Dame’s Meyo Invitational, Williams finished 18th in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 17:49.47.

 

Lashonda Davis

Sr. • Miami • Kokomo, Ind. (Kokomo)

Davis was one of three athletes to post a top-five finish of the second day of Notre Dame's Meyo Invitational, as she finished fourth in the 60-meter dash. Davis clocked in with a second-place time of 7.59 in the preliminary heats of the 60 meters before turning in her fourth-place time of 7.53. Davis just missed a season-best time in the 60 meters and also finished as the long jump runner-up with a distance of 19-10 1/4 on the meet's first day.

 

Chanelle Harmon

So. • Ohio • Cincinnati, Ohio (Turpin)

At the Sate Farm Shell Games, Harmon placed second in both the 60-meter dash (8.03) and the 200-meter dash (26.63)

 

 

WOMEN’S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

 

KRISTINA BOLTERSTEIN

Miami

Junior • Middleburg Heights, Ohio (Midpark)

Facing a field that included athletes from four Big Ten schools and three BIG EAST schools, Bolterstein won her second straight high jump competition Saturday at Notre Dame's Meyo Invitational. Bolterstein turned in a first-place height of 5-10, leaping 1 1/4 inches higher than the second-place finisher, Kelly Bowman (5’8.75”). It was Bolterstein's fourth win in the high jump this season.

Natalie Sako

Sr. • Akron • Parma, Ohio (Valley Forge)

For the fourth time in four meets this season, Sako cleared an NCAA provisional qualifying mark, winning the high jump at the 2007 Akron Open with a leap of 1.81 (5-11.25). It was her second-best jump of the season as she cleared 1.83 two weeks ago, which is just shy of the NCAA Automatic qualifying mark of 1.84 -- or a half inch.

 

Takarra Dunning

So. • Bowling Green • Kalamazoo, Mich. (Central)

At the CMU/Toledo Tri-Meet, Dunning finished second in both the shot put (45’10.75”) and the weight throw (47’10.75”) to lead the Falcons to a second place finish.

 

Jessica Lister

Sr. • Buffalo • Rodman, N.Y. (South Jefferson)

Lister vaulted a season’s best at the New Balance Collegiate Invite in NYC with her clearance of 3.60 meters, placing 10th overall in the very competitive Championship Division Pole Vault. Lister’s vault qualifies her for the ECAC Championships in March.

 

Jackie Smart

Sr. • Central Michigan • Chicago, Ill. (Thornton Township)

Smart won both the long jump and the triple jump at a triangular meet with MAC foes Bowling Green and Toledo, setting a new personal best in the long jump and surpassing the NCAA qualifying mark in the triple jump again. She leapt 19’2.25” in the long jump, and soared 41’8.25”in the triple jump. She has won the triple jump in all four of CMU's competitions this season.

 

Janice Keppler

So. • Eastern Michigan • Medina, N.Y. (Medina)

Keppler tied for second in the pole vault at Notre Dame’s Meyo Invitational with a height of 3.84 meters.

 

Meagan Guenther

Sr. • Northern Illinois • Highland Park, Ill. (Highland Park)

Guenther picked up a first-place finish at the Cardinal Invitational on Saturday February 3rd with a toss of 56'1.75" in the weight throw.  Guenther also had a sixth place finish in the Shot Put with a throw of 41’0.5”.

 

Bahiyjaui Allen

Fr. • Ohio • Toledo, Ohio (Sylvania Southview)

At the State Farm Shell Games last weekend, freshman Bahiyjaui Allen earned a first place and fourth place finish in the field events. Allen took first in the shot put by throwing 13.87 meters and she also took fourth in the weight throw with a throw of 13.42 meters
