MAC Announces Women's Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week

Bolterstein tied an all-time MAC record in the high jump and automatically qualified for the NCAA Championships.

WOMEN’S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

 

 

BECKY HORN

Western Michigan

Jr. • Battle Creek, Mich. (Central)

Horn set a new meet record against Toledo in the 400-meter run, placing first with a time of 56.54. The mark shattered her own record of 56.80 set a year ago at Read Fieldhouse.

 

OTHER NOMINEES:

Breezie Gibson

Toledo

Sophomore • Columbus, Ohio (Groveport Madison)

In the dual meet against Western Michigan, Gibson beat her career best time in the 55-meter dash. Her previous best, 7.63, was eclipsed as she clocked in at 7.33 against the Broncos and set a new school record for the event.

 

Lorene Skipper

Sr. • Northern Illinois • Hendersonville, Tenn. (Beech)

Skipper earned a first-place finish for the Huskies at the RedBird Open with a winning time of 2:17.94 in the 800-meter run. She was also a part of the third-place 4x400 relay team with teammates Coretta Evans, Kristen Ewald and Carolyn Vasquez.

 

 

Ashley Rhodaback

So. • Kent StateAkron, Ohio (Uniontown Lake)

Rhodaback placed third in the 400 meters at the Golden Flash Gala with a time of 59.51.  She also ran a strong leg on the 4x400 meter relay for the Golden Flashes, which finished fourth.

 

Porshia Pryor

Jr. • Eastern Michigan • Ypsilanti, Mich. (Ann Arbor Huron)

Pryor finished seventh in the 60-meter dash (8.86), second in the 200-meter dash (26.57) and third in the 400-meter dash (59.16) at the Michigan Open.

 

Lashonda Davis

Sr. • MiamiKokomo, Ind. (Kokomo)

At the Findlay Open on Dec. 2, 2006, Miami University senior Lashonda Davis won a pair of events, placing first in the 60 meters and the long jump. As the only Miamian to win multiple events at the season-opening meet, Davis clocked in with a first-place time of 7.56 in the 60 meters and went a first-place distance of 19-1 1/4 in the long jump. In the 60 meters, Davis turned in the top preliminary time of 7.61 before placing first in the finals, finishing 0.24 seconds ahead of the second-place sprinter. Davis also won the long jump by 7 1/2 inches. 

 

 

WOMEN’S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

 

KRISTINA BOLTERSTEIN

Miami

Junior • Middleburg Heights, Ohio (Midpark)

At the Findlay Open, Bolterstein tied an all-time Mid-American Conference record in the high jump and automatically qualified for the NCAA Championships with her leap of 6-1 1/2. Bolterstein's leap equaled the all-time MAC indoor high jump standard set by Kent State's Alexandra Church on March 14, 2003. In Miami's first meet of the 2006-07 indoor season, Bolterstein became the first female in school history and the seventh in conference history to clear six feet in the high jump. Bolterstein also broke her own school record of 5-10, which she had previously set at the 2006 MAC Indoor Championships. The jump guaranteed Bolterstein a spot in the 2007 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships which are to be held March 9-10 in Fayetteville, Ark. As of Jan. 8, 2007, Bolterstein's clearance is tied for No. 1 in the nation with Renee Hein of Cincinnati.  

 

OTHER NOMINEES:

Ashley Morrow

Sr. • Northern Illinois • O’Fallon, Ill. (O’Fallon)

Morrow picked up right where she left off, as the 2006 NCAA Outdoor Regional participant won both the shot put and weight throw at the Redbird Open. Morrow posted a winning throw of 46'11" in the shot put and added a first-place toss of 56'1 ¼" in the weight throw.

 

Kristalyn Mauch

Sr. • Western Michigan • Saginaw, Mich. (Heritage)

Mauch placed first in the shot put in the Bronco's dual meet with Toledo, with a throw of 14.07m, setting a new meet record. Mauch also finished runner-up in the weight throw, with a toss of 16.34m.

 

Jessica Novakowsik

Fr. • Eastern Michigan • Wixom, Mich. (Walled Lake Western)

Novakowsik tied for fourth in the pole vault (10’51/2”) at the Michigan Open.

 

Lanae Stovall

So. • Ball StateLafayette, Ind. (Lafayette Jefferson)

Stovall garnered 3299 points in the Ball State Pentathlon Invitational held in the field sports building on December 9th in Muncie. Stovall placed 6th overall, she marked her personal best marks in both the High Jump (5-01) and the Shot Put (33-09).  She ran the 60 in 9.11, long jump mark at 16-10 and her 800 time was 2:41.05.
