Getting To Know: Kent State's Eugene Jarvis
Eugene Jarvis is a senior running back for the Kent State Golden Flashes. Jarvis earned second team All-MAC accolades and was a second team All-MAC selection by Phil Steele’s Magazine. He ranked fifth in the MAC in rushing (89.0 ypg) and eighth in scoring (6.9 ppg). Jarvis also ranked 41st in the nation in rushing yards per game. He caught 25 passes for 273 yards and a score. His 119.3 all-purpose yards ranked 54th nationally. Jarvis also served as the team captain and was named to the Maxwell & Doak Walker preseason watch lists. Below is a closer look at the KSU running back...

1. Why did you choose Kent State?

Kent St. was my first offer and they were loyal to me from the beginning to the end. Coach Martin believed in my talents and did not let my size scare him away.

 

2. What is your greatest accomplishment off the field?

Being the 1st person out of my entire family to graduate from college.

 

3. What is the best advice you have received from Coach Martin?

To stay away from his wife Vicki Martin

 

4. What are your goals for this season?

My goal is to be holding up the MAC Championship Trophy in December.

 

5. What would you like to be doing in ten years?

Having a successful career in the NFL, enjoying my family and living the good life.

 

6. What were you up to this summer?

Working on my craft and enjoying time with family, friends and teammates.

 

7. What would your superhero name be?

Captain Hembad

 

8. Which three people (dead or alive) would you invite to dinner?

Barak Obama, Nia Long, Halle Berry

 

9. What is the most notable thing about your hometown?

I’m from the City of Champions; therefore I’m a product of my environment.

 

10. What was your youth sports highlight?

Being fortunate to win as many championships as I have.

 

11. What’s the best part of being a Division I athlete?

You get a chance to compete against the best competition there is.

 

12. Who is your non-sports hero ... why?

My mother because the characteristics she posses are strong and the obstacles she has overcame, not many people can survive through the things she has been through in life.

 

13. What is your favorite TV show? Why?

The Game because it demonstrates the lifestyles of football players and different situations that occur in their everyday life.

 

14. What’s your dream as a college athlete?

To get drafted and play on a NFL team.

 

15. The artist that takes up most of my iPod...

17. What is your favorite vacation spot and why?

California because it’s a different experience from the east coast and there is so much stuff to do.
