Akron Postgame Quotes
Akron Head Coach Keith Dambrot (Opening Statement): "Some of the guys on Eastern Michigan's staff are very good friends of mine. They've worked with me all over the MAC and I feel badly for how the season ended for them. Today was like déjà vu for us with the quarterfinal game we played against Toledo a year ago."
On play of Carlos Medlock: "We didn't play him very well, obviously. We fouled a lot, which for him are just automatic points. We lost him outside a lot. We played hard but sometimes we were just over-aggressive and it hurt us."
On quick turnaround after double-OT win: "I think we'll play better tomorrow. We have good depth and before this we had only played two games in 13 days. I think we have enough quality on our team to handle the tournament format."
Junior Guard Steve McNees (On tying shot at the end of the first overtime): "I knew after Eastern went up three that we only had a couple seconds left and didn't have any timeouts. I got down the court as quickly as I could and I prefer shooting while going to my left to I dribbled to that side and pulled up."
On Eastern Michigan's decision to not foul at end of the first overtime: "It didn't really surprise me. It was such a scramble situation once his (Jay Higgins) shot went in that I figured they were looking to just get back on defense and weren't thinking about the time and score situation."
Freshman Center Zeke Marshall (On game-saving block at end of regulation): "It was simply a point in the game where I had to make the play for my team. I saw the ball go up and just went up and got it."
On ability to play 35 minutes: "All I did was go out and play like I always try to play. Tonight I played some more minutes because of the foul situation we had but I've been getting in better and better shape as the season has gone along and I was ready for the challenge."
Eastern Michigan Postgame Quotes
Head Coach Charles E. Ramsey (opening statement): "First and foremost congratulations to the University of Akron. They played a great game and were able to outlast us. They made the plays they needed to make down the stretch. Hats off to them. I couldn't be prouder of our two seniors. Carlos Medlock, showed why he is the finest point guard in the Mid-American Conference. He's done that for four years and hasn't really gotten his due. And senior Justin Dobbins. They've had great careers. It was a great ball game, I guess if you're a fan. Somebody had to lose."
On his team's resiliency: "Down by 12 or 14 in the second half, to come back and take control, I couldn't be prouder. The team has shown that type of resiliency all season long."
Senior guard Carlos Medlock (on if his performance): "Being a senior, I've been trying to put the team on my back all year. I mean it was just a dogfight today. I just tried to do what I do to help the team. It was nothing special, just something I try to do everyday."
On the end of his career: "Our team fought hard today. I'm proud of going out with a winning season. I'm proud of the way my teammates performed. Hats off to my team. They fought for everything."
