Baseball Players & Pitchers Of The Week Announced

Miami's Adam Eaton and Ball State's Kolbrin Vitek earn Player of the Week honors, while Akron's Andrew Brown and Ball State's Morgan Coombs were selected as Pitchers of the Week.

Adam Eaton, Miami, Outfield
Junior, Springfield, Ohio (Kenton Ridge)
Eaton opened the season with a bang, going 8-for-13 (.615) at the plate in three starts, including a pair of doubles and a triple, to finish with a .923 slugging percentage. He scored seven runs on the weekend and drove in five while totaling 12 bases. Eaton was plunked three times to help him to a .688 on-base percentage in those three games and was a perfect 3-for-3 on stolen bases. On Saturday against Furman, he went a perfect 6-for-6 at the plate, scoring six runs, stealing a trio of bases and totaling five RBI, coming a home run shy of the cycle, to help Miami to a 23-5 victory for its first win of 2010. In that game, he set career highs for hits, runs, RBI and stolen bases.

MAC Baseball West Division Player of the Week
Kolbrin Vitek, Ball State, 2B
Junior, Bryan Ohio (Bryan)

Vitek led the Cardinals to an upset victory over No. 15 Arkansas Saturday and a 1-2 record over the Razorbacks. Vitek posted a .500 (7-of-14) batting average in the series while scoring four runs. He posted multiple hits in all three games of the series against the nationally ranked Razorbacks.

MAC Baseball East Division Pitcher of the Week
Andrew Brown, Akron, Sophomore
Painesville, Ohio (Riverside)

Brown earned the win for the Zips against Minnesota in game two after hurling seven complete innings and allowing just one earned run. In seven complete innings, Brown struck out a career-high tying seven batters and kept Golden Gophers batters off balance, scattering five hits in his outing.

MAC Baseball West Division Pitcher of the Week
Morgan Coombs, Ball State, Senior
West Terre Haute, Ind. (West Terre Haute)

Coombs led the Cardinals to a 5-2 upset victory over No. 15 Arkansas Saturday. Coombs picked up the victory in relief as he tossed 5.0 innings and did not allow an earned run against the Razorbacks. He limited Arkansas to just four hits and struck out a career-high eight batters as he pitched the final five innings of the victory.

Nick Solitario, Akron, Second
Senior, Wadsworth, Ohio (Wadsworth)
Solitario paced the UA batters this weekend, clubbing five hits to lead the squad with a .556 batting average against Big Ten powerhouse Minnesota. Solitario played a key role in Akron's 4-2 win against the Golden Gophers, going 3-for-3 with a run scored and a RBI.

Ryan Schlater, Bowling Green, Catcher
Junior, St. Paris, Ohio
Tied for most hits (4) and RBI (2) by an individual this weekend for BGSU - Led the team with an OB% of .444 - went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI versus Louisville in their game two, 8-7 extra inning loss

Michael Frank, Bowling Green, Freshman
Maumee, Ohio
In his Falcon debut, Frank went four innings strong and gave up only one unearned run before leaving with the score tied at one prior to the fifth inning. He forced four fly outs and five ground outs in addition to his lone strike out. Retired 13-of-16 batters he faced on the day in his no-decision effort.

Travis Shaw, Kent State, Infield
Sophomore, Washington Courthouse, Ohio (Washington Courthouse)
Shaw was one of the catalysts in Kent State's come-from-behind win over Western Kentucky in its season opener, 13-10. His double in the third drove in Kent State's first run of the season. With the bases loaded and two outs in the fourth, Shaw gave Kent State its first lead of the game with his second career grand slam. He finished the weekend with five hits in 12 at-bats with a .750 slugging percentage.

Kyle McMillen, Kent State, Sophomore
North Canton, Ohio (Archbishop Hoban)
In his first appearance in 2010 Friday against Western Kentucky, a Kent State 13-10 win, sophomore Kyle McMillen threw the final 1.2 innings for his first collegiate save. He retired all five batters faces in only 19 pitches (13 of which were strikes).

Kyle Donawerth, Miami, Senior
Cincinnati, Ohio (Lakota West)
Donawerth went 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA in two relief appearances on Miami's opening weekend. He tossed 2.2 innings, allowing no runs and just one hit with a pair of strikeouts in those two games. The senior earned his first-career win Feb. 20 in Miami's 23-5 crushing of Furman, as he threw two innings of no-hit baseball. He faced 10 batters on the weekend and foes hit just .111 against him.

Dave Reynolds, Northern Illinois, First Base/Left Field
Senior, Orland Park, Ill. (Sandburg)
Reynolds paced the Huskie offense during NIU's three-game series with Collegiate Baseball No. 5 Arizona State by compiling a .333 average and a .455 on-base percentage with three hits in nine at-bats, two walks, a run scored and an RBI ... In Game One, he went 2-for-4 to extend his 2009 carry-over hitting streak to 11 games ... In Game Two, he went 1-for3 with two walks, a run and an RBI to push his hitting streak to 12 games ... In Game Three, he ended his 12-game hitting streak with an 0-for-2 performance.

Jerod Yakubik, Ohio, Infield
Senior, Byesville, Ohio (Zanesville Bishop Rosecrans)
Yakubik posted a team-best .500 average (6-12) with two doubles, four RBIs, five runs scored and eight total bases this weekend. He also recorded a .667 slugging percentage, a .600 on-base percentage, walked three times, successfully stole both bases he attempted and went errorless in a team-high 28 chances. Yakubik saved his best game for last when he went 3-4 with three RBIs and three runs scored in the 13-6 win over Towson.

Michael Dillon, Ohio, Sophomore
Bel Air, Md. (Calvert Hall College)
Dillon came on in relief for the Bobcats in the season-opening loss to N.C. A&T, allowing no earned runs on five hits with five strikeouts and two walks in four and one-third innings. He allowed a .188 batting average against.
