MAC Men’s Soccer Player of the Week

Teal Bunbury, Akron, Forward           

Sophomore, Prior Lake, Minn. (Shattuck-St. Mary's)

Bunbury was named Forward of the Tournament and MVP Attacker at the adidas Bearcat Classic last weekend as the No. 1 UA men's soccer team stayed perfect on the year with a 4-1 victory over High Point and a 3-0 win at Cincinnati. The sophomore scored a goal and assisted another against High Point and finished the weekend with 11 combined shots against the two opponents.

Jeff Smoker, Bowling Green, Goalkeeper       

R-Freshman, Finneytown, Ohio (Finneytown)

Was named to the All-Tournament Team at the Duquesne Invitational. Had eight saves and a goals-against average of 1.35 in the two games. Had the first career complete-game shutout of his collegiate career in a 0-0, double-overtime tie against host Duquesne. Had six saves, tying his season (and career) high, in that game. Had two stops vs. Richmond. On the year, has 20 saves and a 1.34 GAA.

 

Michael Unwin, Buffalo, Forward        

Junior, Basingstoke, England (North Iowa CC)          

North Iowa CC transfer Michael Unwin, registered two goals in the Bulls' 4-0 victory over host Marquette in the opening contest of the Marquette Invitational.  The Bulls' leading shooter, scored his first goal as he took a feed in the top of the box, firing the shot past the Golden Eagles' keeper.  His second goal came off a long diagonal to give the Bulls a 4-0 lead and eventual victory.  In honor of his solid play, Unwin was named to the Marquette Invitational All-Tournament Team.

 

Nick Roydhouse, Hartwick, MF/F        

Sophomore, Palmerston, NZ

Roydhouse was the point leader in game vs Loyola on Sunday. A constant threat that kept Loyola defense on an edge the entire game.

 

Luis De La Cerda, Northern Illinois, Midfield   

Senior, Guadalajara, Mexico (Waubonsie Valley)

Scored game-winning goal in a 1-0 victory over Oakland, Sunday Sept. 13 in the NIU adidas/Magnuson Inn and Suites Invitational. It was his first goal of the season.
