CLEVELAND -- The Mid-American Conference announced its 2007 Women’s Cross Country Academic All-MAC team Friday, as voted by faculty athletic representatives at MAC institutions. A total of 15 student-athletes were named to the team. The number of honorees on the MAC All-Academic Team are the number that is set for the specific sport or 33% of the number of nominees, whichever is greater.
Central Michigan and Miami lead this year’s team with three selections each. Elizabeth Carpenter, Kelly McClure and Amanda Rudert represented the Chippewas, while Sarah Henize, Kelsey McHugh and Jennie Stoll were the RedHawks selected. Carpenter, Rudert, Henize and Stoll were also named to the 2006 Academic All-Team last season.
Ball State’s Ali Bishel, Buffalo’s Mary Veith and Ohio’s Carime Reinhart were named to this year’s squad after picking up 2007 All-MAC first-team honors. Bishel finished second at this year’s MAC Cross Country Championships, while Veith and Reinhart also finished in the top five at this year’s Championship. Akron’s Larisa Arcip, Miami’s Jennie Stoll and Eastern Michigan’s Melissa Green earned All-MAC second-team recognition this season and were also named to this year’s Academic All-MAC team.
Akron’s Olivia Jaworek, Ball State’s Vanessa Gilbert, Eastern Michigan’s Kalli Williams and Toledo’s Dagna Sztykiel rounded out this year’s Academic All-MAC team.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.
