Getting To Know: Kent State's Brian Lainhart
Brian Lainhart is a junior safety for the Kent State Golden Flashes. Lainhart emerged as one of conference’s top defensive players, earning second team All-MAC honors last season. He was a first team All-MAC selection by Phil Steele’s Magazine and garnered team’s Outstanding Defensive Back Award. His six interceptions led the MAC and were tied for seventh in the nation. The total was also fourth in Kent State’s single-season annals. He finished seventh in the MAC and tied for 39th nationally with 8.8 tackles per game. Lainhart’s 106 stops were second-most on team. Get to know more about the Kent State safety by reading below... 1. Why did you choose Kent State? I choose Kent State because coach Martin and the rest of the coaching staff believed in me and it was my only division I offer. 2. What do you still hope to accomplish in the future? I hope to win a MAC championship and a bowl game. 3. What are your goals for this season? My goals for this season are to win the MAC and have the top ranked defense. 4. How did you get started playing football? My Dad got me hooked on football when I was young. 5. What is your favorite beverage/food/dessert? My favorite food is seafood, kool aid is my favorite drink and ice cream is my favorite desert. 6. If you can have one animal be extinct, which would it be? I would like to have Poodles be extinct. 7. What were you up to this summer? I have been getting ready for the season and taking a class this summer. 8. What is your greatest fear? My greatest fear is failing at anything I do. 9. When you were a little kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? When I was little I always wanted to play in the NFL. 10. Which three people (dead or alive) would you invite to dinner? I would invite Jesus, Tiger Woods and Emmitt Smith to dinner. 11. What would your ideal job be? (outside of playing sports professionally) My ideal job would be to be the President of the United States. 12. What was your youth sports highlight? My youth sports highlight was going to the Youth Football Superbowl. 13. What’s the best part of being a Division I athlete? The best part of being a Division I athlete is the free education 14. What are your pregame rituals? Before our games I listen to my iPod, get stretched and spatted. 15. What is your strangest superstition? My strangest superstition is that I wear the same pair of black socks for every game. 16. What is your favorite TV show? Why? My favorite TV show is Fresh Prince of Bel Air because it’s funny. 17. Besides football, what sport would you have pursued for a college scholarship? I would have pursued baseball for a college scholarship. 18.The artist that takes up most of my iPod... Fabulous is the artist that takes up most of my iPod. 19. What is your favorite holiday? Christmas is my favorite holiday. 20. What is your most memorable moment in sports, either as an athlete or as a sports fan? Winning the High School State championship in football was most memorable moment in sports.
