Complete List 2011 NSCAA College Team Academic Award Winners
CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Mid-American Conference was honored this week as 15 of the 19 men’s and women’s soccer programs were honored by the National Soccer Coaches of America Association for their academic success. All 12 teams in women’s soccer for the MAC were honored with NSCAA Team Academic Awards, while three of the seven MAC men’s soccer programs gathered honors as well.
The MAC dominated the women’s side placing four teams in the top 10 of the Division 1, including the top team. Central Michigan’s, 3.70 team GPA, was the best among all Division 1 school, edging out Illinois State, who recorded a 3.64 GPA in 2011. This marks the seventh consecutive year that Central Michigan has had the highest GPA in Division I women’s soccer. MIT was the only institution in the country that recorded a higher GPA than CMU with a 4.30 GPA. Also making the top 10 was Toledo, fifth, with a 3.61 GPA, Bowling Green, ninth, with a 3.58 GPA, and Eastern Michigan rounded out the top 10 with a 3.57 GPA.
On the men’s side, Akron, Bowling Green and Hartwick College were honored for their excellent academics. Akron, which recorded a 3.44 team GPA, was .01 behind Harvard for the best in division I, and sixth-best in the country. Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Lynn University, Swarthmore College, and Bard College made up the other four institutions throughout the NCAA that posted better GPA’s than Akron.
Akron and Bowling Green were the only two schools in the Mid-American Conference that both the men’s and women’s programs were honored.
A total of 789 soccer teams (218 men, 571 women) posted a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher, thereby earning the NSCAA Team Academic Award for the 2010-11 academic year. Of that total, 159 schools had both their men's and women's programs recognized.
