MAC Men's Basketball Teams Begin Postseason Play

Akron to host Wisconsin-Green Bay in the CBI, while Kent State will welcome in Tulsa for a first round NIT contest.

College Basketball Invitational • Green Bay leads series 4-3

• For the third-straight season, the University of Akron men's basketball team will compete in the postseason as the Zips accepted a bid to participated in the 16-team College Basketball Invitational. Akron (24-10) will play host to Green Bay (21-12) on Wednesday at Rhodes Arena at 7 p.m. ET. Akron, which is enjoying its fifth-straight 20-win season, suffered an 81-75 overtime loss to Ohio in Saturday's MAC Tournament championship game. Akron (24-10 this season) has won at least 23 games in each of the last five seasons, and has posted at least 24 victories in three of the last four years (23-10 in 2005-06, 26-7 in ‘06-07 (tied school record for wins), 24-11 in ‘07-08, 23-13 in ‘08-09). The Zips went 19-10 in 2004-05, in what was head coach Keith Dambrot's first season at the helm of the program...Green Bay fell 62-53 to Detroit in the quarterfinal round of the Horizon League Tournament on March 5, and is participating in the CBI for the second-consecutive year.

National Invitational Tournament • First Meeting

• The Kent State men's basketball team will host Tulsa in the opening round of the National Invitation Tournament (NIT) on Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. The Golden Flashes earned a No. 4 seed and will face the No. 5 seed Golden Hurricane. Kent State is making its first appearance in the NIT since 2005 and eighth overall. The Golden Flashes (23-9, 13-3 MAC) earned an automatic bid to the annual post season tournament after winning the Mid-American Conference Regular Season Championship. Kent State has now qualified for the post-season in 11 of the last 12 years....Tulsa enters the post-season with a 23-11 overall record. The Golden Hurricane finished fifth in Conference USA with a 10-6 league record. This will be the first ever meeting between the two schools. The winner of the game will move on to face the winner of the Illinois/Stony Brook match-up.
