Bowling Green Head Coach Curt Miller (Opening Statement): "Very pleased with the win tonight. The players did a great job with only one day to prepare for an extremely tough defense. Akron has had a historic year on the defensive side of the ball, and for us to score 81 is a credit to our players, and their ability to stick to the gameplan."
On establishing an early lead: "This is the 7th straight year where our program has made at least the conference semifinals. Experience really was a factor tonight. We had a calmness about us and brought a workmanlike approach. We put them on their heels a little bit early and we needed this game up-tempo. Our start really gave us the confidence that we could get the game up-tempo."
On facing local rival Toledo for the automatic bid: "We're very excited. In the end, it didn't matter to us who we matched up with, we just want to focus on our game and put everything out there that we have to earn the bid. We've been down this road before and we know that right now we're on the bubble. We want to go out and win the game and not have to worry about whether we're in or not. If it so happens that both Toledo and Bowling Green make the NCAA's, I have a feeling that our conference could make a splash again."
Senior Guard Tamika Nurse (On playing for the championship): "I'm really excited to get the chance to play for a championship as a senior. All it is right now though is an opportunity and it's going to take a lot of effort to make the dream a reality."
On handling the Akron pressure: "They're very good defenders, so you accept early on that you'll be dealing with a lot of pressure throughout the entire game. It's a matter of using your teammates to help you, finding ball screens, and finding your open teammates to counterattack."
Senior Forward Tara Breske (On finding success down low): "The coaches have drilled into us that we need to have a balanced attack. Once we get the defense reacting to our post play, it helps open up our shooters from the outside."
Akron Head Coach Jodi Kest (Opening Statement): "One game does not define who we are or our season as a whole. Bowling Green deserved the win today, and played well in every aspect of the game. I think that at the beginning of the year, most people wouldn't have expected us to be here and I'm proud of the whole team and especially the graduating seniors."
On the impact of seniors Ayla Guzzardo and Jolene Tamboue: "Those two have meant everything to us. Ayla is our point guard, our sparkplug, the kids feed off of her with her energy. They could have taken the easy route and gone to a program that was already established, but they took a chance to come here and try to build something special."
Sophomore Center Kyle Baumgartner (On development as a team): "Last year we had seven new players come in, so we had a lot of people who hadn't played together before. After having a full year to play with each other, the chemistry really started to develop for us this year and allowed us to improve."
Junior Forward Kara Murphy (On what will come out of the loss): "This definitely hurts right now, but we are a hard-working team. I think that we can use this loss as motivation in the off-season to perform even better next year."
